Reggie and I spent over an hour and a half at the vets today as they ran different tests.
Over the past few days he's been eating less and less, so Sunday I cooked him rice. He snarfed down the rice and seemed very happy about it, but he threw it all up around 4:00 in the morning. Today he refused to eat at all, I had to force some of his pills down his throat, and he was sick outside about 2:00 in the afternoon. I called the vets and they wanted him brought in because it sounded like a new issue. He actually was feeling better at this point and ate some treats at 3:30 and then some of his dog food at 5:00.
Even though he seemed better, I took him to the vets to be safe. Sure enough, in addition to liver shunts and IMHA, Reggie now has pancreatitis. This means his pancreas is inflamed and is not producing as it should. So he's vomiting and having diarrhea. Additionally, his red blood cell count has fallen to 34%; not good. We don't know if the blood cell count dropped because of the IMHA or because of the pancreatitis.
Due to all of his symptoms, it took the vets a little time to decide how to treat him. We're leaving all his existing medications as they are (that includes the Prednisone dosage), but we're re-adding an anti-biotic. Plus he'll be on an anti-vomiting medication for a few days. He'll be re-tested in 10 days. If he continues vomiting, we'll take him off his GD prescription diet and put him on WD. Poor Reggie. Poor me.
We're both exhausted.
