I went out to my garage this morning to throw away some trash and discovered my car had a flat tire. Swell, what a crummy way to start the week! I wasn't too surprised about the flat, after all the roads are in horrible condition with ice and snow hogging the roads. Then the temperature drastically dropped Saturday, so I'm glad it's just a flat and not a dead battery to boot. Luckily the car was in the garage, out of the harsh wind and some of the cold.
I debated about trying to change the tire myself, but decided that wasn't a smart move. Most of my neighbors were either at work or older retired folk leaving one pigeon...I mean, one nice neighbor to call for help. RR was a good sport and came over right away. We had an easy time getting the nuts off and jacking up the car, but we couldn't get the tire off! I've only had a flat once before and Honda and told us to loosely reattach two nuts, then lower the jack so the tire was just off the ground. Then to kick the tire which would loosen it enough to remove it. That worked the other time, but not this morning. We kicked and kicked...but that tire did not want to come off. We tried pulling it, wedging it, kicking it, cussing at it...no go...that tire was attached to the car. Finally, after 15 minutes of fighting the tire, I gave one last desperate kick and the tire came off.
We got the spare on and I ended up buying two new tires. There were a lot of people at the tire store...I wasn't kidding about the bad road conditions and the sharp temperature drop. All-in-all, I was lucky. My buddy TL was at friends Saturday night and discovered at 11:30 that he had two flat tires! He had to have the car towed, buy four new tires, and pay for alignment. Ouch.
