We had a sad Memorial Day Weekend in my neighborhood because my next-door neighbor died in her sleep. She's had a lot of health problems, but this was a terrible shock. Mardi and her family have lived here for ages and she touched a lot of people with her loving and nurturing behavior. We're all struggling with the pain of this loss, but are thankful that she is no longer suffering and that we have each other for comfort.
Mardi was a big animal lover and before her health declined, used to take care of Reggie when I wasn't home. Reggie adored her! I'd say, "I'm going to call Aunt Mardi." or "I hear Aunt Mardi outside." and Reggie would start barking...that was his name for her, Aunt Mardi. One time when I was out of town, Mardi decided to sleep here with Reggie so she could get away from the re-modeling being done at her house. That evening she took Reggie for a short walk and then settled into watch Oprah before going to bed. Reggie, being Reggie, didn't want a short walk...he wanted a long walk. So he planted himself between Mardi and the television and stared at her. When Mardi ignored him, Reggie left the room. Mardi, being Mardi, told people for years that "Reggie doesn't like Oprah and won't watch her on television." ;-)
Mardi, you'll always be in our heart and memories.
